Grades Nine through Twelve Student Handbook

For your student’s safety, students may arrive to school no earlier than 7:30 am (unless arrangements have been made with a teacher or coach). Classes begin at 8:00 am. Dismissal time is 2:51 pm. Students must exit the building by 3:00 pm, unless under the supervision of a coach, teacher or tutor.

Free drop-in tutoring is available daily after school in the LMC. After school tutoring is held from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Students can use this time to complete homework or receive extra support in various subjects.

All parents, teachers, community members and other stakeholders are invited to participate in the RHS Principal’s Advisory Group meetings. Our goal will be school improvement through open communication among various stakeholders. This will provide an opportunity for interested parties to offer their suggestions, thoughts and/or assistance. Our first meeting of the school year will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 8:00 AM.

Student success requires a thorough understanding of student rights/ responsibilities while in school and during participation in co-curricular activities. Wyandotte Public Schools continues to be proactive with prevention and intervention. Please review the Education Policy and Procedure Guide found on the district website at www.wyandotte.org.

Two Federal laws require school districts receiving Federal assistance to provide military recruiters, upon request, with three directory information categories— names, addresses and telephone numbers - unless parents have advised the District that they do not want their student’s information disclosed without prior written consent.

If you do not want Wyandotte Public Schools to disclose directory information from your child’s education records without your written consent, you must notify your student’s counselor in writing within two weeks of the start of school and/or receipt of this notice.

Students will be randomly assigned A, B or C lunch based on their 5th hour teacher.  The cafeteria offers an a la carte or full lunch option. A full lunch is $3.10. Money may be deposited into your student’s lunch account via the cafeteria or www.mypaymentsplus.com for use as a debit system with the student’s ID card.

Students are expected to use good judgement when using or possessing active electronic communication devices in hallways during passing time, in the parking lot, cafeteria during lunch and extra-curricular activities.  Students may not use or possess active electronic communication devices without explicit staff permission in the classroom.  Students who violate this policy will turn their cell phone over to the staff member and will be subject to disciplinary action. Earbuds are NOT to be worn in school. Please see cell phone policy on district website for more details.

RHS has a reasonable and uncomplicated dress code. We expect students to dress in an appropriate manner for school. The WPS Dress Code can be located at www.wyandotte.org in the Student Code of Conduct. Students may not wear pajamas, halter tops, tank tops, crops tops, spaghetti strapped tops, bare backed tops or clothing with holes. All apparel must fit properly—no low cut shirts, excessively tight shirts, pants or skirts. Hats, bandanas, etc. may not be worn in building. Shorts, dresses and skirts may not be excessively short (clothing must cover from shoulders to fingertips).

The MiStar Parent Portal is available as an app or online. The portal is used to update contact information, access report cards and attendance records. If you need help accessing your parent portal, please contact the school office.

All student drivers must obtain a parking permit for their car prior to September 13 in order to park in the student parking lot. Permits are available for purchase in the Main Office beginning August 22.  The cost of a permit is $15 if purchased prior to September 5 and $20 thereafter. Permits must hang from the rear view mirror when parked in the lot. Permits are available for purchase all year in the Main Office as students receive their licenses. Please see the front office for a Parking Permit form.

All progress reports and report cards can be viewed on Parent Portal.  Report cards and progress reports will not be mailed home.

Roosevelt High School is a closed campus. All students must remain in the building from 8:00 a.m. to 2:51 p.m., including lunch.

The most common cause of student failure is poor attendance. Parents must notify the Attendance Office of excused absences within 24 hours by phoning 734-759-5006 or 734-759-5007. Messages may be recorded at either phone number at any time of the day or night. Please carefully monitor telephone calls and letters received. Absences and tardiness can be monitored using Parent Portal.

Students who are truant from school will be subject to school discipline. Chronic truants will be referred to juvenile court and/or dropped from enrollment.
