Wyandotte Transition Program (WTP)

The Wyandotte Transition Program (WTP) was established in 2020 to provide post-secondary learning opportunities to students who are at least 18 years of age with Mild Cognitive Impairments who did not receive a high school diploma.

The program’s primary focus for students is to develop employability skills by participating in non-paid community worksite based learning. The goal is to help students acquire the necessary skills to successfully obtain and maintain employment and become contributing members of the community. Students also learn how to appropriately interact with co-workers, peers, and community members.

The program is intended to be a two to three year program based on the student’s individual needs. During a student's time in the program, they gain employability skills, daily living skills, and work on their individualized functional academic and pre-vocational goals. In addition to employability skills, our students participate in a travel training program which increases students' access to the community through public transportation. Since 2020, the program has expanded into neighboring communities, such as Southgate and Taylor. Each year, graduating students have accepted a job in their community or are linked with Community Mental Health services.
