Our Classroom and Work Site Learning

In the Classroom

During the week, students are in the community Monday through Thursday participating in Worksite Based Learning. When students are back in the classroom and not at a worksite, they work on functional academics and daily living skills. The WTP classroom is equipped with a full kitchen, washer, and dryer to assist in teaching hands-on daily living skills. WTP also runs the "Beardrobe" for Roosevelt High School which supports students in need of clothing or hygiene products. On Fridays, students work on Individual Education Plans (IEP) goals and objectives, participate in Ori Learning Curriculum lessons and activities, and cook, prep, and plan upcoming cooking lessons. During the week, students grocery shop for the ingredients for the upcoming cooking lessons. The classroom goal is to prepare students not only for entry level work but also daily living.

Worksite Based Learning

In addition to classroom instruction, Wyandotte Transition Program (WTP) students participate in Worksite based learning Monday through Thursday in Wyandotte and the neighboring communities. WTP is fortunate to have partnerships with various businesses where students gain non-paid experience in the areas of including retail, restaurants, hospitality, custodial, clerical, customer service, and car detailing. WTP students participate in Worksite Based Learning to learn soft skills and entry level job skills that help build their resume and prepare them to become an active member of their community. Along with the worksite experience students also learn to track and calculate their hours of work and how to appropriately interact with co-workers, peers, and community members.
