Grades K-5
Young Fives and Kindergarten Enrollment
Wyandotte Public Schools recognizes that every child develops at their own pace. Our Kindergarten and Young Fives programs are designed to provide engaging, supportive learning experiences that foster confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. The District offers two full-day early learning options designed to meet the developmental needs of young learners: Kindergarten and Young Fives. Both programs support academic growth, social-emotional development, and a smooth transition into elementary school.\

Young Fives and Kindergarten Eligibility
Placement is primarily determined by birthdate, with screening available to support families who are uncertain about the best placement.
- If a child turns five on or before June 1, enroll in Kindergarten.
- If a child turns five between June 1 and September 1, enroll in Young Fives or Kindergarten. A District developmental screening process can assist in selecting the appropriate program.
- If a child turns five between September 2 and December 1, enroll in Young Fives. A District developmental screening process is required to enroll a child in Kindergarten with this birthdate. A child will also require a waiver to enroll.
- If a child turns five after December 1, enroll in Preschool.
Developmental Screening
District developmental screening is required for children who turn five after September 1. During the screening, a child participates in age-appropriate activities that provide insight into academic, social, emotional, and developmental readiness. Screening is not pass or fail and is used solely to support placement decisions. Families must register online or in person to be scheduled for a screening. The screening takes approximately thirty minutes.
