The focus of the Chromebook program at Wyandotte Public Schools is to provide tools and resources for the 21st century learner. Excellence in education requires that technology is seamlessly integrated throughout the curricula. Increasing access to technology is essential to build upon college and career readiness skills. The individual use of Chromebooks is a way to empower students to maximize their full potential. Technology integration provides students with the tools necessary to be college and career ready.

Learning results from the continuous dynamic interaction among students, educators, parents and the extended community. Technology immersion does not diminish the vital role of the teacher. To the contrary, it transforms the teacher from a director of learning to a facilitator of learning. Effective teaching and learning with Chromebooks integrates technology into the curriculum anytime, anyplace. 

What does 1-to-1 mean?
1-to-1 simply means that each 5th grade through 12th grade student will receive a district owned Chromebook to use at both school and home.

Why is Wyandotte Public Schools implementing 1-to-1 at the secondary level?
The specific result of 2016 Wayne County Enhancement Millage Wyandotte Public School’s’ current board goals is to  “Expand use of and access to interactive tools and technology to support  and improve K-12 learning and innovation.”

How does a 1-to-1 support the Wyandotte Educational Program?
The 1-to-1 deployment supports our Wyandotte Educational Program by helping us ensure that students meet the College and Career Readiness Skills of Citizenship, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity to better compete in the 21st Century. Through the implementation and integration of technology teachers will augment, modify, and redefine instruction transforming how students learn.

How is the Wyandotte Public Schools funding the 1-to-1 deployment?

What software will be installed on the 1-to-1 Chromebooks?
Chromebooks have ChromeOS installed.  Any web based tool will run on a Chromebook.

What do students and parents need to do in order to receive a 1-to-1 Chromebook?

  1. To receive the Chromebook, students will need to electronically sign the “Student and Family Pledge” and
  2. Successfully complete the 1–to-1 activity in their Social Studies Class on June 7th.


  1. Review and sign the Damage & Replacement Contract which can be found at MyPaymentPlus.com.  Use the same login you use to add funds to your child’s lunch account.  If you do not have an account, you will need to create an account.  Attached are instructions for how to do both.  For verification purposes, all parents who have children on free or reduced lunch must still register their email contact information on MyPaymentPlus. 
  2. Pay the insurance fee on MyPaymentsPlus.com under the “Technology” tab.  See the attached instructions for how to do this.

How do I register for MyPaymentPlus?

How does the Wyandotte’s Annual Insurance  program work?
Annual $25 insurance reduces the cost of a potential accidental damage.

What are the potential repair or replacement fees associated with the Chromebook?

Will the insurance cover the expenses for the repair when gross negligence is involved? 

What are parent's responsibilities when students are using the school device at home?
Parents are responsible in making sure their child maintains their Chromebook and has it charged ready for school in the morning. 

What do I do if my student’s Chromebook is not working properly?
When in doubt reboot the Chromebook. Many  issues can be resolved by simply restarting.  A restart can often resolve issues more quickly than submitting a Helpdesk ticket.

If rebooting the Chromebook does not fix the issue, email helpdesk@wy.k12.mi.us or call 734-759-5061 during the summer.  During the school year, have your student report the issue to the library/Office in 5th grade.

Will students receive a new Chromebook each year?
5th and 9th grade students will receive a new Chromebook to use for four years.

How will students know which Chromebook belongs to them?
There is an asset tag on the Chromebook.  If it is removed, there is a fee to have it replaced.

Can students choose not to participate in the 1-to-1 deployment?
We hope all students will want to participate in the 1-to-1 deployment.  If they do not want to over the summer of 2018, they can opt out and receive their Chromebook in September. 

Will students have a place to leave their Chromebook at school overnight, over the weekend, or during breaks?
No, students need to take these devices home.  Students are expected to bring a fully charged Chromebook back to school each day.

Will students keep the 1-to-1 Chromebook over the summer?
Yes, by allowing students to keep their Chromebooks over the summer we are encouraging them to participate in academic pursuits all year long, including summer enrichment.

Will students be able to access the Internet on the 1-to-1  Chromebooks?
Yes, they will be able to access the Internet anytime there is an available WiFi connection.

Is content filtered on the 1-to-1 Chromebooks when they are connected to the Internet?
Yes, each Chromebook is filtered for inappropriate content and always passes through the District’s filter when connected to the Internet no matter the location (e.g., school, home, public WiFi. When students access the Internet at home, they will be prompted to login periodically to the  filter before proceeding onto the Internet.

What if my student does not have Internet access at home?
Wyandotte Public Schools only provides Internet access for students while at school. Options for students without Internet access at home include downloading files onto their Chromebook before leaving school, utilizing  high school’s extended library hours, or connecting to public WiFi (e.g., public library).  Comcast offers discounted rates to qualifying families.  

Wyandotte Municipal Services is working on developing a similar program like Comcast.  More information may be available in the fall.

How do I learn more about keeping my student safe online?

What happens if my student decides to leave the Wyandotte Public Schools district?
If a student decides to leave the Wyandotte Public Schools district, the Chromebook and power adapter will be collected.
