Wyandotte Early Childhood
Wyandotte Public Schools strongly believes in the importance of providing our children withhigh quality, developmentally appropriate, learning environments to give all students the very best start at learning. All of our classrooms implement the HighScope Infant & Toddler or HighScope Preschool Curriculum, placing an emphasis on active participatory learning. Children's interests and choices are the foundation of our classrooms, as our staff support children by playing an active, and intentional, role in guiding and extending student learning. Our Early Childhood Programs provide a daily balance of developmentally appropriate learning, while also incorporating curriculum elements of our district's Kindergarten classrooms.
Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, Wyandotte's Early Childhood Programs will be relocated to form the new Wyandotte Public Schools Early Childhood Center, located at 2609 10th Street in Wyandotte. This relocation allows for Wyandotte's commitment to our youngest learners to continue to grow.
To meet the diverse needs of Wyandotte families, and the surrounding community, several different early childhood programs are offered:
Child Care: Located within the WPS Early Childhood Center are five child care classrooms, servicing children from the age of 2 weeks-old until 5 years-old. The child care program follows the same curriculum guidelines as our other early childhood programs; while allowing families to determine the unique schedule that will meet their family's needs.
Tuition Based Preschool: The WPS Early Childhood Center is also home to our Tuition Based 3 Year-Old & 4 Year-Old Preschool Program. Three year-old students have the option of attending two, three or five days a week. Four year old students attend school Monday thru Friday from 8:00 - 11:00 or 11:45-2:45. Please view our "Tuition Based Preschool" link for more information on available programs.
Free 4 Year-Old Preschool: Wyandotte Public Schools is proud to participate in a grant program from the State of Michigan to provide 4 year-old preschool at no cost for qualifying families. The Great Start Readiness (GSRP) Program offers both a full-day option and a half-day option. Students attend preschool Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 - 3:00 (full-day classroom) or from either 8:00 - 11:00 or 11:45-2:45 (half-day classrooms).
