ac-kid-emic spotlight - The News Herald - October 25, 2006

Sydney Gondek, 8, of Wyandotte is the ac-kid-emic pupil of the week.  She was nominated by Sarah Fitzgerald and Kathryn Kochis, her third-grade teachers at Taft Elementary School of Wyandotte.

Sydney is the daughter of Carlene and Jim Gondek, and has a step-brother, Nathan.  Her family has a dog named Kito.  Sydney's favorite subject in school is reading.  "I like fiction and nonfiction stories," she said.

Kochis said Sydney turns in all of her homework assignments and works hard at math.  The third-grader also enjoys gymnastics and dance, especially Polish dancing, which she said is "a lot of fun".  She'd like to be a teacher someday.  "I can help people learn and get to know things", Sydney said.

As the student of the week, Sydney will receive a four-pack of movie passes to any MJR Theater or Southgate Cinema 20 and a free class session at the Southgate YMCA Fitness Center.
