Tracy Shuryan, Jefferson Elementary School, Wyandotte

Who she is: Tracy Shuryan, 9, is a fourth-grader at Jefferson Elementary School in Wyandotte.

Background: Tracy is the daughter of Rudy and Sue Shuryan of Wyandotte. She has a sister, Kristine, and a brother, Brian.

Why nominated: Tracy is a dedicated student who is on the Principal's List Honor Roll for earning all A's. She is a talented artist who recently won a coloring contest, which enabled her to eat lunch with local firefighters. Tracy also enjoys basketball, softball and swimming, as well as writing poetry and stories.

She says: "I just try to do my best in school. Some problems may be hard, but I never give up. I have great teachers who help me understand things better. I can't wait to be a famous artist when I'm older."

Student of the week: Theresa Shuryan, Jefferson Elementary School

Who she is: Theresa “Tracy” Shuryan, 8, recently completed the third grade at Jefferson Elementary School in Wyandotte.

Why nominated: Tracy is a hard working student. She never gives up on anything she is working on. She is very helpful and always willing to lend a helping hand to other students. She respects everyone and has many friends.

Tracy’s teacher, Janel Blevins, says: “I wish I had 26 students like Tracy every year.”
