Susan McKenney, Jefferson Elementary

Who she is: Susan McKenney teaches kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary in Wyandotte.

Background: McKenney received her teaching certification from Madonna University in 2001. In May 2004, she completed her master's degree. She also holds a bachelor's of science from Michigan State.

Why nominated: She was nominated by parent Cathy Bartolotta for her role in co-authoring the "Math Wizards" game-based mathematics program used throughout the district.

She says: "I am so grateful for the children, parents and mentors who guide and support me every day. Teaching is an art and a lot harder than it looks! It's also a lot more fun!"
