504 Plans
There are students who have various disabilities who do not meet the eligibility requirements for special education services. A 504 Plan may be developed to make accommodations for these students in the general education program. A 504 Plan is developed by the general education staff and parents and monitored by the school principal. Eligibility for a 504 Plan is based on documentation from a qualified professional.
To help students succeed in school, classroom
teachers use many of the techniques described on 504 Plans. Some examples
of adjustments may be to: 1) adjust assignment length, 2) read text/tests to
students, 3) use assignment books, 4) adjust the grading criteria, 4) develop a
behavioral plan, or 5) adjust the physical environment.
