ac-kid-emic spotlight - The News Herald - April 23, 2008

Shelby Groat, 10, of Wyandotte, is the ac-kid-emic spotlight pupil of the week.

She was nominated by Tiffany Tittle, her fifth grade teacher at McKinley Elementary School in Wyandotte.

Shelby is the daughter of Ken and Mary Groat, and the sister of Tyler and Adam.  The family has a dog named Max and two cats named Roxanne and Sasha.

The fifth grader's favorite subject in school is social studies.  "I like learning about the world," she said.

She shines academically and enjoys playing hockey and baseball as well.  Shelby would like to work someday as a paleontologist or a teacher, she said.

As the student of the week, Shelby will receive a four-pack of movie passes to any MJR Theatre or Southgate Cinema 20 and a free class session at the Downriver Family YMCA.
