Rachel Zimmers, 8, of Wyandotte is the
ac-kid-emic spotlight pupil of the week.
Estelle Bresnahan, her third-grade teacher at Jefferson
Elementary School of Wyandotte, nominated Rachel.
She is the daughter of Ronnie and Amy Zimmers, and has
two brothers, Ronnie, 13, and Ryan, 12. She also has a dog,
Minnie, and a hamster, Reesee.
Rachel makes good grades in school, her teacher said, and
her favorite subject is math.
"I like adding," she said.
She also enjoys bowling, dancing and baseball when she's
not doing schoolwork.
She hopes to be a nurse someday, and has had some daily
practice at one aspect of the profession.
"I like giving people shots, "Rachel said. "I give my dad
one every night."
Rachel's father is diabetic, and gets insulin from his
daughter.
As the student of the week, Rachel will receive a
four-pack of movie passes to any MJR Theater or Southgate
Cinema 20 and a free class session of her choice at the
Southgate YMCA Fitness Center.
