Wayne teacher of
the week: Joanna Secco, Roosevelt High School
Who she is: Joanna Secco is a math teacher at Roosevelt
High School in Wyandotte.
Background: Secco has been teaching in Wyandotte for the
past 11 years. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from
Wayne State University.
Why nominated:
Secco is an accomplished teacher who is always on the lookout for
her students. She received the Wayne County Regional Educational
Service Agency Award for commitment to quality education and has
volunteered her time for several activities. Secco serves as a
mentor to new teachers and is a member of the Michigan Mathematics
Leadership Academy.
She says: "I love teaching students and seeing their
accomplishments both inside and outside of the classroom. I work in
a wonderful atmosphere with dedicated co-workers and friendly
students." I thank my family, friends, co-workers and students for
helping me to have a rewarding career."
