Who he is: Jeff Weller is a
science teacher at Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte.
Background: Weller received his
bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and his master’s
degree from Wayne State University. He has been teaching in the
school district for more than six years.
Why nominated: Weller is committed
to his students’ success. He tries new and innovative ways to teach
science. By making his class interesting, Weller opens the wonders
of science to his students. He often comes in early or stays late to
help make sure that students fully understand the lesson. Weller
promotes hands-on learning through lab experiments.
He says: “In my life, there have
only been a handful of teachers that truly influenced me. As a
student, I could tell that they were passionate about teaching. This
is the type of teacher I strive to be like for my students.”
