Who she is: Cathy Auler teaches fifth-grade science and math in Wyandotte.

Background: Auler has taught in the district for seven years. She received her bachelor's degree from Cleveland State University and her master's degree from Marygrove College.

Why nominated: Auler is a thoughtful teacher who appreciates and encourages the uniqueness of each student. Her teaching approach incorporates technology and individualized lesson plans that accommodate struggling math students.

She says: "Teaching is a commitment that I take very seriously, and being able to teach math and science, makes it even more fun. Every child learns differently, and it is up to me to find what works for them. I encourage each of my students to be tomorrow's problem-solvers and, in order to accomplish this, it takes practice."
