Who she is: Becky Thornell works in the Resource Room for special education at Taft Elementary School in Wyandotte.

Background: Thornell has been teaching for more than 25 yrs. She received a master's degree in special education from EMU.

Why nominated: Thornell is very involved with her students. Her students look forward to each class with Thornell. She works hard with each child on an individual basis and lets them learn at their own pace.

She says: Thornell would never let a child say they couldn't achieve something. She would find a way to let that child succeed.
